There has been a number of OpenData events in Ireland in the last 6
months or so. I have attended 3 and was spreading the word about OSM
at each of them.

This one looks very interesting, and a number of the prime movers in
the space will be there. I think there is also going to be an event
in Dublin on the 7th November - if that goes ahead I will be there.

Also the GIS Ireland 2011 conference takes place tomorrow in Chartered
Accountants House on Pearse St. in Dublin. I will be giving a talk on
Irish Addressing, but there are a couple of OSM centric talks on the
agenda.

Regards,

Richard

>> Data is targeted at public authorities, businesses, organisations and

>> What is Open Data?
>>
>> The Open Data movement is a global initiative, with the goal to motivate
>> governments to make public information, such as transport,
>> infrastructure and education information, freely available and easily
>> accessible online. Examples include data.gov, the Open Data website of
>> the United States, and data.gov.uk, the Open Data website of the UK.
>> Today, more than 140 regions and countries are publishing their data
>> online. In Ireland, we do not yet have an official national Open Data
>> portal. However, in November 2011 Fingal County Council became the first
>> county to launch an Open Data website at data.fingal.ie. Nearly one year
>> on, Fingal remains the only Irish council to have an Open Data website.

>>
>> What are the benefits of Open Data
>>
>> The benefits of Open Data are both economic with the identification of
>> new business opportunities and social through increased transparency and
>> accountability. Examples of applications that can be built using Open
>> Data are ‘County Rank’, an application that compares how counties rank
>> in terms of service indicators such as housing, planning and
>> recreational services, or ‘UK School Finder’ an application that
>> displays information about all schools in a particular area.
