Hi,
I've just joined the list, but great to see interest in our Open Data event in DERI. Matthias, the concept of Open Data is growing rapidly in Ireland. From a public authority perspective, Fingal County Council has been leading the way. They launched http://data.fingal.ie last November and have already published over 90 datasets. They have built apps using this data, but many third-party apps have also been built. Now DUBlinked, a consortium of Dublin councils, have gotten together to launch their own Open Data portal (http://dublinked.ie). The Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) has also been very active in promoting Open solutions - from Open Source to Open Data. At the Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI), NUI Galway, we are carrying out a lot of research in this area and are involved in European projects, such as http://latc-project.eu/ and http://lod2.eu/. Dominic Byrne wrote a great blog post on Open Data in Ireland - where are we now? (http://data.fingal.ie/Blog/September) Richard, the Galway event 'Opening Up Government Data' is part of Irish Open Data Week (#iodw), which is been organised by the National Cross Industry Working Group on Open Data....that's a lot of titles I know! Basically it's a group of public organisations, SMEs, multinationals, academics etc. who are interested in promoting Open Data in Ireland. There will be events taking place in Dublin and Cork during the week of the 7th, keep an eye on #iodw for updates. 'Opening Up Government Data' at DERI, NUI Galway is aimed very much at public authorities as well as businesses and developers, so that we can have open discussions around the benefits of Open Data for all stakeholders. We will also hold practical & simple how-to sessions, where we will demonstrate how public authorities can start publishing their data with minimum effort. It would be great to have GIS-professionals at Opening Up Government Data, as location-based information is key to unlocking a lot of the potential of other Open Data. Perhaps you could mention us at the GIS Ireland 2011 conference tomorrow? J A detailed agenda and free registration available here: http://www.deri.ie/about/open-data/ Contact me if you have any questions. I have attended 3 and was spreading the word about OSM at each of them. This one looks very interesting, and a number of the prime movers in the space will be there. I think there is also going to be an event in Dublin on the 7th November - if that goes ahead I will be there. Also the GIS Ireland 2011 conference takes place tomorrow in Chartered Accountants House on Pearse St. in Dublin. I will be giving a talk on Irish Addressing, but there are a couple of OSM centric talks on the agenda. Regards, Richard 2011/10/10 Matthias Meißer <digi_c at arcor.de>: > Sounds quiet interesting.
