I download OSM XML data for Delhi/NCR quite often from the website itself - "Export" tab - and it fetches through OSM API. I haven't tried scripting or use any already existing scripts, but you can find one on the wiki. Only issue that I see is, as we can select a rectangular area, you will be downloading data for Indian Subcontinent and not purely India. regards, Nishant -- How about some patent on "(a+b)2 = a2+2ab+b2".
