in most towns the nh city roads still have milestones with the nh number and it pretty easy to see the pattern since it is usually one single road that runs right through, bangalore though is an exception, everything here is a big mess and i really cant see any hierarchy of roads.
in the case of nh4, i remember some reference of MG road being nh4. my buest guess is that it runs common with chowdiah road/nh7 and then breaks away at sankey road and onto tumkur road.
