Hi all, Just in case anyone is interested. There will apparently be a Google Map Maker Mapping Party on May 21. See this blog post for details: <http://www.gtugphilippines.org/2011/04/may-21-mapping-party.html>
As far as I know, this is the first true Google Mapping Party in Metro Manila. There has been a similar event in May 2010 before the elections but that was only to map electoral precincts and not via Google Map Maker. Other Mapping Parties have occurred in GenSan and Zamboanga City. BTW, Google got the inspiration for their Mapping Parties from OpenStreetMap, but there is a big difference. OpenStreetMap Mapping Parties almost always involve field surveying (going out to the streets and recording GPS tracks and noting down POIs) while Google Mapping Parties are almost always sit-down events involving armchair mapping (tracing places you know from Google's satellite imagery). Anyway, according to this blog post, <http://www.gtugphilippines.org/2011/04/mapping-parties-for-philippine-red.html> there will be tons of Google Mapping Parties lined up for the year. I guess we need to organize more OSM Mapping Parties too this year. We shouldn't let Google have all the fun. Hehehe. :-D Eugene _______________________________________________ talk-ph mailing list [email protected] http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ph
