For basic gated communities, I think the usual way of tagging is marking the whole area a landuse=residential with the correct name=* tag. The streets inside are marked as access=private. The gate entrances are tagged with barrier=gate with access=private. I personally use barrier=lift_gate. Some may opt to add barrier=wall or barrier=fence to mark the perimeter wall/fence.
For complex gated communities--those really large ones that have multiple sub-gated communities inside and with plenty of retail areas--like BF Homes ParaƱaque, I have no idea yet how to best tag those.
