Hi everyone, After the WikiExpedition Santa Ana event which was held last September together with the Santa Ana Mapping Party, the next WikiExpedition will be in Sariaya, Quezon[1] in late November.
Together with a few other people from Wikimedia Philippines, I went to Sariaya last Saturday, October 11, to meet the Sariaya Heritage Council to plan the upcoming WikiExpedition. I also met Nick, a Wikipedian and OSM mapper[2] based in Lucena City, just to the east of Sariaya. I think having a Mapping Party in Sariaya would be good. The town center is quite compact and has a nice grid layout that makes assigning areas easy. Sariaya is around 3-4 hours away from Manila so it's quite accessible. Nick is also supportive of the idea. I think Ian Lopez can also come as well. Alternatively, we can also have a Mapping Party in Tayabas City[3] to the northeast. The city center is just outside of the Bing satellite imagery coverage and it could benefit with old-style mapping (with GPS). What do you guys think? The last time we had a Mapping Party outside and near Manila was in 2010 in Cavite.[4] [1] http://www.openstreetmap.org/node/198524516 [2] https://www.openstreetmap.org/user/Nickrds09 [3] https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/198498395 [4] http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Cavite_Road_Network_Mapping_Party ~Eugene
