What I think that you mean by this is that unsupervised data imports are frowned upon, for the reasons that you've given. Such scenarios need to be tried in a small area with thorough review. Let others on this mailing list know about the test area so that it can be peer reviewed. You'll need to see how this trial goes before proceeding with other areas.
