I will start off by saying that obviously this cannot be used directly in OSM, since we don't name ramps. In compiling data for NG911 from multiple sources, a consistent problem we have had is in the naming of exit and entrance ramps.
These ramps are extremely import: a large number of traffic accidents occur on them and we must dispatch to exactly the right ramp in a way that can be quickly identified from information provided by a caller (e.g. exit number is not helpful if the caller is already on the ramp). But, no one seems to have a naming convention for ramps (including OSM). Has anyone come across something resembling a "standard" for ramp naming, or at least a flexible consistent system? I did look at Waze's naming pattern, but unfortunately their use of forward slashes in the naming pattern breaks quite a few dispatching systems. Related to this, I also wanted to look for some ideas on how to generate names for the unnamed ramps in an OSM extract. Thanks! Brett Lord-Castillo St Louis County
