Meetup does provide for text notification for events you’ve been signed up for; I always get texts ~3 hours in advance of a hike I lead or attend.
Most people don’t use this because they likely assume they will be inundated with texts containing the same stuff they get via email (which can easily be overwhelming), but the setting I use, at least, texts me *only* a three-hour-in-advance reminder, never for anything else.
