Dear American OSM contributors,

It's my first post on this ML, since I only contribute in Europe so far.

As I looked for public data regarding Trans-atlantic submarine fiber cables
to map upcoming Dunant cable (owned by Google, see the post on talk@), I
found out the Marine Cadastre webpage
https://marinecadastre.gov/data/

Two interesting datasets are provided there
https://inport.nmfs.noaa.gov/inport/item/48900 (NASCA, restricted download)
https://inport.nmfs.noaa.gov/inport/item/48901 (NOAA)

Beside the first dataset, NASCA provides nice pdf maps:
https://www.n-a-s-c-a.org/cable-maps/

This would be technically possible to improve submarine cable mapping on
OSM as several of them already exists but aren't described accurately
https://openinframap.org/#5.7/41.023/-63.91

As I'm not knowledgable about licence and copyright usage of those
datasets, does someone ever get in touch with MarineCadastre, NOAA or NASCA
to use their publications?

I'll be happy to help if it's possible to use them in OSM.
Same question applies for hydrokinetic and power projects, oil pipelines
and wells...

All the best, enjoy your weekend

François
