Talk-ZA, http://aerial.openstreetmap.org.za/ imagery (available in iD, Potlatch2 & JOSM) is now seamless. No ugly black strips while zoomed out. Happy to describe setup if anyone is interested. (gdal vrt, gdalwarp, mapserver...)
