Unfortunately, this isn't what most of us want to hear. read before using.

Subject: Re: [MT-TTS] pitch issue

Folks,

Now that you are able to get the MT SAPI interface working (thanks to Josh), I should point out again that our own experiences using MT with jaws have been less than rewarding. Working with the demo version 7.1 of Jaws, I have seen all of the following problems (keep in mind that we are not really familiar with Jaws features):

1. MT voices seem to speak one word at a time in places where I don't think they should. 2. Pitch changes (seems to increment) with each reading of an item in a list. 3. The whole system hangs and jaws and/or windows needs to be restarted before we get any speech output again.

Based on my experiences, I don't recommend using MT voices as the voices within Jaws. I suspect we have some bugs in our code that are interacting with some features (or maybe they are bugs) in Jaws. For what it's worth, I have found the MT voices to be more stable when used with Thunder, and possibly with Window-Eyes, although I have very limited time testing it with any of these programs.

If nothing else, Jaws has been a great eye opener (pun intended) for us in exposing some lingering sapi problems in MT. We are working to fix those and I think eventually we'll get the MT voices to run stably under Jaws, but it may take a few weeks to get there because there will be some serious programming involved.

Thanks,

t

I followed the instructions for getting model talker to work with jaws, but now I have a strange problem. I am using mtcaty and the pitch of the voice is totally out of controll. as mt reads, the pitch of the voice gets higher and higher.
is anyone else having this problem?
and now, while reading the message above, mt crashed, leaving me with no speech.
