Rejected Realms has been on another one of its somewhat more often than intended breaks over the last three weeks, due to me telling people that I was
having a break, having a friend around for the week and then having my increasingly irritating ISP generally screw my life up yet again. Finally, however, I am back this week, for better or for worse, depending on whether or not you have obtained consciousness by then. Thanks to daylight screwing around and me refusing to jump a time track I will be appearing at 6 AM eastern, which is good, because it's one hour closer to a reasonable sort of hour for you American people to be awake. This week, we will start playing two things that are very interesting indeed. We seem to have an obsession with 1981 here, but 1981 thankfully was a big year for radio. To prove my point, I'll be presenting you the National Public Radio adaptation of Star Wars! You can't get any bigger than that. Ben Burt's work for the series is some of the most iconic and recognizable in sound design history, so the series is ideal for adaptation. It's great fun, especially on headphones, and the adaptation fleshes out the story much more than the movies had the chance to. Next up, from Terry Pratchett's Discworld series, it's Guards! Guards! The BBC adaptation of Small Gods was very well-received when I playd it, so I thought this would be agreat way to have some mad fantasy fun before geting into some darker stuff in a few weeks. If you know your Discworld, this is also the story that introduced the Ankh-Morpork city watch. It really is great fun. Now also, we finally have something I've been wanting for a very very long time. TBRN now has a /rejectedrealms channel, upon which you will be able to hear each week's two shows whenever u like. So if you missed something, you can always go back in time and hear it, though changing history remains strictly forbidden. If you're American and you happen to be up at the time, you should tune in. I know it's incredibly early but I really like this stuff, and I think you would too. If you're not, then try to be around, because it's always so much cooler when there's discussion involved. Wednesdays and Fridays, 6 AM eastern, 8 PM Aus, on TBRN.
