You can use VarType() to check for the existence and if it doesn't
exist, populate it with nil (make it exist, but make it blank):

If VarType(D("ADJ")) = vbError Then

     D("ADJ") = ""

     STEP = "BACKOUT"

ElseIf D("ADJ") = "" Then

     STEP = "BACKOUT"

EndIf

Exit Sub

Subject: [talkbws] Variable doesn't exist

I have some rules that say if a data station value is blank go to
another step like this...

If D("ADJ") = "" then

            STEP = "BACKOUT"

END IF

But if for whatever reason D("ADJ") isn't present it will break. How do
write a rule that says if a data station value doesn't exist go to
another step?

Thanks,

Reese
