I immediately ran in to the focus/screen saver problems that Thom has
referred to. I only run attended scripts with 4.x when I'm forced to
use it. So far no one is pressing me to give up 3.x and my network
people have graciously setup a machine in a secure area that doesn't go
to screen saver.

The tips will be great to receive.

Subject: [talkbws] RE: Meditech Workstation 4.x

Greetings,

The biggest problem with 4.x is that the popup windows need to focus in
order for the keys to go to them (our connection will do this when it
sees a popup) but this precludes running behind a screen saver etc. and
slows things down if more than one script is running at a time, and if
something interrupts the "focus setting" we do, that would cause the
script grief. So timeouts are a good practice (good practice anyhow).

Also 4.x is a slower display in general, meaning it flips screens a bit
slower than 3.x does - this has nothing to do with scripting btw - it
just is.

Our NUI connection will see the dialogs and direct keys - or if you
<have> to go graphical menu, click icons etc.

So if you're looking for ammo to keep 3.x on a VM or BWS pc here's what
I'd say:

1. Scripts will run faster against 3.x because 3.x flips its
screens quicker

2. Scripts can run behind the scenes better

Regards,

Thom

Subject: [talkbws] Meditech Workstation 4.x

Good Afternoon All:

I would like those of you who use MEDITECH MAGIC to comment on
scripting with Workstation 4.x. I have personally refrained from
scripting with Workstation 4.x because I didn't want to deal with pop-up
boxes and other Workstation 4.x nuances. It seems as if these nuances
made my scripts less reliable. So, what do other MEDITECH MAGIC
scripters think of Workstation 4.x? I'm asking because others in IT
have an initiative to remove Workstation 3.x from every end users PC,
including the end users that run scripts. Is my poor attitude about
scripting with Workstation 4.x justified?

Thanks,

 Jared Parish
