Greetings,

Sorry for the additional traffic - but figured others may be interested
in this as I'm hearing a lot of folks will be moving to this platform
over the coming year(s).

What I should have said was:

The good news is, if the fields were in the same place on the screen -
then much of the script wouldn't need to be changed. That means if they
are different consistently, then a script could be converted with an (as
yet uncreated) utility.

Perhaps not obviously, there is also a new Connection option for 5.6 /
6.0. The C/S connection for 5.5 and earlier will not work for 5.6.

So the new scripts will use this different connection. But that's just
switching out the Connect command - no biggie there.

The Menus are very different from 5.5 to 5.6 - no icons anymore, no
Lookup screens either. These required our development team to create a
special command to select menus by their name. So these would need to be
learned - nice thing about 5.6 is the menu's are all on one screen, and
you can simply highlight the menu item you want in the Application
Viewer like you can with Magic - so it's actually easier.

There are some icons that require the use of a clicking icon command we
created as those have no keyboard shortcuts at all. Most do however, but
the shortcuts are different than what you may have been used to.

I'll be hosting a webinar next month on scripting C.S 5.6 / 6.0 and will
go over the above and more.

And if someone <hint hint> can facilitate a comparison between versions
for given screens - I'll gear the webinar towards how to convert scripts
as well.

Regards,

Thom

Greetings,

The biggest challenge is that the screens are radically different. I
have not done an individual comparison between screen X in 5.5 vs screen
X 5.6

If someone has a setup like that however - I'd gladly look at it to see
if a conversion utility is plausible or not!

Regards,

Thom

We are also in TEST. June 1st is our scheduled LIVE date. I haven't
started re-writing our existing scripts (yet!). Since 5.6 is totally
different, does anyone know if this warrants a total re-write of
everything? I wish there was an upgrade tool that would help facilitate
the move, within Boston Workstation. Anyone know of anything that would
help?
