Greetings, This was discussed on yesterday's webinar and I promised an explanation - so in the interest of keeping same (the promise that is) here goes:
The Computer Name field in the Scheduler display actually refers to how you name a running instance of Boston WorkStation. So while the name of your computer is probably a good name to use for a running instance of BWS if you are managing many different PCs w/ BWS installed and running scripts. You are not limited to the actual Computer name. In fact, on a given PC, you could have several instances of Boston WorkStation running - each having been launched with different Computer names! I'll be giving a webinar next month to go over the all the uses of this feature. But yesterday, I also promised a simple-yet handy use of this feature. How to open a Project with scheduled scripts but NOT have the scripts start running. I will keep this simple and assume you want all the scripts to run when open the project one way (via Start up for example) but don't when opened directly from BWS. Setup: Modify the scripts in your Schedule by adding a Computer Name - be sure to use the same name for each script and to modify each scheduled script! Now, create a shortcut to that Project. (Options->Create Shortcut -> follow instructions) will do this for you. Here is an example shortcut target to a project: C:\Bss70\Bss80.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Thom C. Blackwell\Desktop\SchedulerTest.bws Now I want to add the shortcut /NAME ComputerName C:\Bss70\Bss80.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Thom C. Blackwell\Desktop\SchedulerTest.bws /NAME Thom If I launch the Project via this shortcut, the scheduled scripts will run as scheduled. If I launch the Project any way other than this shortcut- they will not! Regards, Thom Thom C.
