Has anybody experimented with performing some kind of OCR on a scanned document to produce an input file for BWS. It is my understanding that BWS only uses OCR to access certain host applications. I have a good connection to my host application it is the input file(s) that I need the OCR for. Let me explain... I would like to attempt to automate the processing of return mail. I know the easiest method would be to smack a barcode on each piece of mail but our statement vendor wants to charge for that. So I was thinking I know where the Account Number and Name are going to be on the page so if I could just have our people scan all the return mail then we could OCR it and use Boston to update the accounts. Each program I've looked at which performs OCR wants to do it to the entire page and doesn't seem to be all that accurate. So has anybody found a good free (or cheap) solution for performing OCR on scanned images. My ideal program would allow me to choose certain areas of the page to perform the OCR on, ignore everything else, and output the results to a text file.
