I've encountered that a few times and each time it is that I didn't set up the A session with Rumba.  You'll need to go into your "Shortnames" and configure the A appropriately.

Greetings,

Junk characters like that is a definite indicator of a bad connection.

Now what can cause this?

1.       The Shortname A is not configured within the Rumba session (most likely candidate)

2.       There is a longer than 2 second delay between when Rumba starts and the mainframe screen shows up in it - so it's attempting to connect too soon.

3.       Rarely, need a ChDir command in front of the Connect statement (the Connect menu can build this for you - there's a checkbox indicating to do so)

Regards,

Thom

Subject: [talkbws] [Talk] Scripting SMART...

I'm digging up bones here and referencing an old email.

I have somehow lost an old script I used to connect to our SMART mainframe.

Now that I'm attempting to recreate the connection, I can't seem to make it work.  It calls the RUMBA terminal emulation program just fine (via WDU RUMBA configuration file) and it appears to step thru the RUMBA DLL command.  However, when it gets to Pause "login:" it freezes up.  It's like it really isn't connected.  I also do not see the connection screen in Boston Workstation.  Just junk characters.

I've tried to use Key vs Enter and no dice.

Here is the code below that I'm trying to use:

Sub myScript1()

Shell_ """C:\Program Files\NetManage\Vt\SMART.WDU""": Wait 2

Connect "A C:\Program Files\NetManage\System\ehlapi32.dll", stRumba

Pause "login:"

Key "username"

'Enter "username"

Pause "Password:"

Wait 15

'PauseRule "eeaaaeeeaaaeeeaaa...@25,1&@1,0" 9  (this was enter when I tried to record the script in BWS)

End Sub

Subject: RE: [Talk] Scripting SMART...

Greetings,

Ah - Rumba - I'm familiar with this one - what you'll need to do is first set (if not done already) a HLLAPI shortname. Memory escapes me as to where exactly in Rumba this is set - I typically fumble around in the menus till I find it (or if I want to appear smart do a search in the help manual)

After that, in Boston WorkStation, use the HLLAPI connection, there is a Browse for DLL function which will find the appropriate HLLAPI to use - our documentation says that for Rumba it's typically:

c:\program files\walldata\ehlapi32.dll

Our documentation also talks about how to send function keys etc. so it's worth a read - look under Connections - HLLAPI.

Give Support a ring if you run into any difficulties - I'm answering because I saw your post on Talk!

Regards,

Thom
