David,
There are two fundamental approaches for doing what you ask. But both
take advantage of D("Status") and the .BDS file
Approach #1 - use d("Status") and optionally DataStation reports.
Have your script set and evaluate against D("Status") - if you start up
a new Rules script and select the Data entry from File template you'll
see this in action.
The DataStation report can make an exact copy of your original
spreadsheet + the Status field.
Approach #2 - this still uses D("Status") in the exact same way as
above, except that when you create the command to open the spreadsheet,
you must check off "direct update" option.
Then a Status column will be added to your spreadsheet. I saw a post a
minute ago that describes how to force a save to the worksheet on
demand.
Which to choose? Well, my personal preference is approach #1, unless the
spreadsheet has other workbooks etc and having all the data together in
the original source spreadsheet is important.
Approach 1 is easier and will run just a tick faster because you're not
writing back to Excel. You end up with 2 files at the end - the original
spreadsheet and a copy that mimics exactly the original spreadsheet -
nothing an D.Archive command (or a VBA Kill command won't solve).

Subject: [talkbws] Saving Excel updates in DataStation
Hello,
I need to process a large file of credits from an Excel workbook into
STAR. I'll be updating each row in the file with a status reflecting the
failure/success of each transaction.
Is there a way to save the status updates back to Excel without waiting
until the script gets to D.Close_ ? If the script hangs up for some
reason and has to be restarted, I have to be 100% that transactions are
not applied more than once.
Thanks!
