Hi:

We have about 30 Virtual PCs that run more than 60 scripts daily. When
connecting to a scripting PC, you should use a tool that connects to the
active session, and leave the machine logged in. I use the VMWare
vSphere Client. Before going to virtual PCs, I used DameWare /
PCAnywhere. I would not recommend Remote Desktop.

When creating a script to run unattended, you need to make sure you have
strong timeout logic. Most of our scripts will send me an email if
they get stuck with a screen shot attached, so I can research. We also
have logic built in that will try to exit Meditech, and restart (thank
you Paul, it is still working well). Each of my scripts records start
/ end times in a database. I use a small dashboard report to track
progress through out the day / night.

It takes a good amount of work to get a script to run unattended. If
you have questions that I can help with, my phone number / email is
below.

Good luck !

Subject: [talkbws] Automatically running a scheduled BWS script?

Hello,

I am researching running a BWS script daily at 11:30pm based on some
conditions. This is a time when no one is in the office and thus it
would need to be unmanaged. I looked into the Schedule feature in BWS
and in the documentation it says:

"There are 5 factors that will prevent or delay Scheduled Scripts from
running: ... The Boston WorkStation is not running."

We have a Windows server we could run this on, what is the best way you
would accomplish this? I could remote in once and setup a schedule for
it to run, but from what I've read on the knowledge base (below) it does
not seem this will go well if the screen is not "active".

"The safe advice is, the desktop must be logged in and active. Or to
describe it another way, a user could be sitting in front of that PC,
and could see the screen."

So no one would be there to remote in and make the desktop "active".

I have made a few attempts, but came across various issues such as
"Yes/No" prompt popups in Meditech are never seen by BWS and often the
script ends up hanging at that point.

Has anybody accomplished this so that an unmanaged scheduled script is
consistently reliable?

Thank you,

Tyler Nielson
