Are you using Alsa, OSS or the Pulseaudio wrapper.  I've seen this problem
where the Alsa mixer mutes the dsp channel on reboot.
If you are using Alsa you can try using the alsamixer to unmute the channel
and alsactl store to make the settings persistent.
