Oosh, that sucks. It's a little brain-breaking because computers don't
generally do that. But it seems like you have a lot of moving parts
there, and you mentioned something about Oracle on localhost vs.
networked... could there be a timing issue, connections not getting
set up, packets being dropped, a firewall taking matters into its own
hands?

I'm grasping at straws of course...
