I'm looking to build a new web-based event calendar system, and would
appreciate suggestions for an existing quality code base from which to build
it.

I'm not looking for general framework suggestions as much as an existing system
that is well-coded and worthy of adoption/mimicry for this kind of app. Typical
add - manage - publish - integrate & cross-reference stuff for events,
hopefully including some handling of recurrence/venues/etc. PHP and MySQL
preferred, Python and PostgreSQL ok if the PHP folks recommend it in this case,
ZF is fine... CalDAV should on the roadmap at least if it's already an even
calendar.

I don't mean to trivialize development.. but this is a personal project for an
amateur coder (me) and I simply hate building upon something that smart
developers later tell me at a NYPHP gathering was poorly written, badly coded,
or completely stupid ;-)

Thanks in advance for the guidance!

I love PHP but I love SEO more...
