I have used these functions before for encrypting/decrypting with public/private key pairs:
openssl_get_privatekey() openssl_get_publickey() openssl_public_encrypt() openssl_private_decrypt() You need to have the openssl module enabled though (compile php using --with-openssl in the configure arguments). If this is something you are doing a lot, using a module is going to be more efficient than php-based functions.
