Hi, since you're more familiar and probably faster with Ubuntu go with it, if a necessity comes up you'll change it later.
I personally prefer CentOS. Whatever Distros you chose use Chef, so on your local you'll be able to use Vagrant to create a development environment with the same configuration as in production.
