Carol, My suggestion is this. Use the old keyboard navigation to get to the old Bullets dialog box - Hit alt O, then N and the dialog will open. The first tab is bullets and when I arrow through the options, WE reads what they are.
If you simply want filled round bullets, I typically do the following. Hit Control Shift K on the line where you want to start bullets.
