Hi Alan, I have used the OCR programs for many years and they have grown and improved over the years. I regularly go through my mail using OCR and it is extremely accurate. Like any complex program or function, it is true that you will run into errors here and there, but the ability to read material independently when I choose is very valuable.
It's interesting that when OCR for blind users started in the late 80's or early 90's, just the scanner cost $1,150. Now you can get a scanner that is more than twice as fast, much more accurate for under $50.
