I just did a little researching, and you can also download a free anti-malware scanner/removal tool from Microsoft called the Microsoft Safety Scanner. It's compatible with any other anti-malware software.
The download is only good for 10 days, then you must download a new (presumably updated) version. You can download it from: http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx Chip -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, April 04, 2015 4:23 PM To: Chip Orange; Window-Eyes Discussion List Subject: Re: explanation of Windows Defender and Microsoft Security Essentials Hi, this is correct.this will be the same for windows 10 once it is released.thank you. If your computer is running Windows 8, you can use the built-in Windows Defender to help you get rid of viruses, spyware, or other malware. If your computer is running Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP , Windows Defender only removes spyware. To get rid of viruses and other malware, including spyware, on Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP, you can download Microsoft Security Essentials for free. In Windows 8, Windows Defender replaces Microsoft Security Essentials You can't use Microsoft Security Essentials with Windows 8 or Windows RT, but you don't need to because Windows Defender already provides built-in protection." _______________________________________________ Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared.
