Great news! Have now downloaded the program.

Hi,

It has been mentioned on this list numerous times about restoring the
system to an earlier time with the Windows Restore feature. Apparently
the Windows Restore feature can cause problems although I have never
experienced this.

Anyway, there is now a free or home version of Rollback RX. Just do a
search for Rollback RX Home download.

The Home version only allows 7 snapshots and does not allow the setting
up of when the snapshops can be taken automatically. By default, a new
snapshot is taken upon bootup and does not take long for the 7 to be
reached. At this point, no more snapshots are recorded without manual
intervention.

The first snapshot is locked and cannot be unlocked or deleted which
leaves 6 snapshots available. This is where the programme becomes useful.

It is very simple with WE, to go into the snapshots, right click the
oldest snapshot and delete it. A new snapshot can be then manually taken
by pressing control n and follow the prompts.

Currently I am deleting the oldest and creating a new one every 4 days
giving a maximum of 24 days coverage. The whole process of deletion and
creation is very quick and easy. However, the next boot up may take a
while as the existing snapshots are defragged.

I had a situation recently where the system would not boot correctly and
the Windows Restore feature would not work.

With sighted assistance, very early in the boot process, it was noticed
that a message briefly flashed on the screengiving the option to press a
key. From memory, I think it was the "Home"key which needed to be
pressed in order to give access to the Rollback feature. Anyway, it was
then a simple task of using the keys to select andexecute a Rollback
snapshot. At this early point in the boot process, the mouse would not
function.

The rollback worked perfectly and my system was back to normal in a
short time.
