Hello,
OK, I ordered the Upgrade to 9.1 last week, and then downloaded it
onto my Win 7 64 bit system. It install clean with no problems.
I use Internet explorer 11, and right away noticed some Funkiness
when Browsing some familiar web sites such as Ebay, and Youtube.
I did see others on this list having the occasional troubles, but the
problems seems to go away for those people, or those problems are
still problems, and the People just stopped mentioning them.
I had read the Browsing part of Window eyes had been re-done, so
there would be some changes.
that being said, I've been attempting to use the new 9.1 and I.E. 11,
and I have had the speech go away. I've had the system lock up
several times. I've had Window eyes read stuff that wasn't
there. I've had Window eyes possibly Add Text, when typing in an Edit Box.
I wanted to search for Timberline, but ended up with having
Timberline Tools typed in the edit box. I have never typed in,
Timberline tools.
I ran the same search for Timberline three times, and on the third
run, I had to backspace five times to take out the word Tools. And
while Backspacing, I did not hear the Characters as I was backspacing
over them. Just had to guess and hope.
ran the third search, and the Screen would not Read anything.
I pressed Alt F4 to close I.E. 11, and the Speech came back.
There are times when I need to press CTRL Shift A to engage Browse
mode, otherwise I can not read anything. Other times, this is not needed.
other times I start to Page Down, and I lose Speech. Sometimes I can
wait 30 seconds to a minute, and the speech will return, and other
times it is just gone.
I will press CTRL Shift A, just to see if I am in Browse mode, and
sometimes it will go into Browse mode, and other times I get nothing,
or I get, Browse mode not available.
And there is a Sluggishness when I do have Speech, and I am using the
Down Arrow keys to read a web page line by line.
I do understand I am using a new method for Browsing, and that there
might be some problems. OK, I am having problems, and I am
disappointed in the results I have gotten so far from the new 9.1.
I do understand that the Web is hard to keep up with, and that
because the methods of programming Pages is constantly changing,
faster than Screen Readers can keep up. However, when using 8.4, I
didn't have these problems. I may have had other issues if I were
to visit other web sites, due to some of the changes I mentioned
earlier. So, I do understand there is sometimes a need to make
changes in how things are done.
I would really like to complain, but I am keeping my Cool so far. I
have a sensitivity to Software that is sold before it is really
polished and ready to go to market.
OK, OK, so what if I am disappointed. I get that too.
So lets say this, is there anything I can read, or alter in Window
eyes to better and more reliable performance?
Someone was telling another subscriber they should try adjusting the
speed of the cursor in order to stabilize the speech. I'll look into
trying this.
but, I really do not like it when my speech just goes away, or locks
up my system.
I ask myself, did I do something wrong? Did I mistakenly press the
wrong key? Should I be using Browse mode differently? Should I be
using other commands I have yet to learn? Or am I just dealing with
a few bugs that might be ironed out in the next update.
I've been using 9.1 for almost a week, and if I want to get anything
done, I find myself going back to my old Win XP system that still
has 8.4 on it.
I hope all I am dealing with is just some Growing Pains and that
there will be fixes coming soon, or I will be Re-educated as how to
use Window eyes when traveling the Web.
I do have FireFox, and Google Browsers on the Win 7 system, but I had
these because of my Work, and use them rarely. If there is better
response and reliability using something other than I.E. then I could
amke the change. However, do I need to do this?
Thanks for allowing me to rant a bit, but if any have any useable
suggestions, I am open to what ever you have to share. I find I run
into some kind of a problem about 80 per cent of the time when I am
on the web.
Thanks again,
Dave
