Hi Andre,

As far as free anti-malware protection, check out "Windows Defender" or 
"Microsoft Security Essentials".

I use my MS Office all the time, and wouldn't trade Outlook for another 
email/organizer package; why do you say you have to "give it up"?  I was also 
going to recommend Office 2013 until I read that line.

Subject: Windows 8.1 laptop. What software should I absolutely get?

                I wanted to start a new thread. So for my new laptop, what
software is more of an absolute? Which free software do you recommend to
protect my pc, registry cleaner, against malware, etc.

I'm going to have to give up my office 2007 I believe and I don't think it
has much as far as a word processor. So does WE work with open office?

 

How about software for backup and restore purposes so I can just go back and
recover to the point after I have Window Eyes installed along with the other
recommended software?
