Michael,

I assume you mean an unprotected e-book?

The last e-book I purchased required me to use Adobe Digital Editions to
read it because it was copy-protected. Unfortunately, Window-Eyes doesn't
work with the current release of ADE; and while they have released an app to
make ADE work better, this doesn't work on the current version of ADE
either.

I modified their app so that it does work, but only in a limitted way. It's
slow and somewhat awkward to use, but I needed this e-book for my job, so I
had no choice.

The problem was made worse due to ADE only providing information as to what
was being displayed by use of UIA, and WE apps cannot always use the UIA
information (in this case I could not get to the information, as WE does not
make it available to VBScript apps). The way ADE makes the information is a
big part of the problem as well.

If anyone else needs to use ADE however, the app I have does make it
possible, and I would pull it together into a version suitable for public
release if anyone needs it; otherwise, I'll wait on AI to update their app
or otherwise handle this.

Chip

Subject: reading an e book

Hello, I want to order an e book from CBD, but I don't know how or
what I need to read an e book on my computer. Can someone tell me a speech
friendly way to do this. Will I need a special program that reads e books?
Thanks for any help you can give.

Butch
