delete the characters you see with first going to the end of the characters
with your END key and then use your backspace key to delete each character
or press END key then shift plus home to select all the text then delete
then proceed to type in your user name now.

Subject: Strange Edit Field
My local bank has a new web site with a non-standard login screen.
Normally, the word Username would be the label for an edit field, but in
this case, it is data already entered into the field. This certainly caused
some confusion for me and some login problems before I realized there was
text in the field.
NVDA handled this problem best, selecting the text in the field when I used
the Tab key to access the field. I could then just type my username and
replace the text. NVDA spoke the words "clickable edit" when I access the
field.
With JAWS, I ended up with my username and the word username both in the
field, which didn't work too well.
When I accessed the field with my Tab key using Window-Eyes 9.1, and typed
my username, WE apparently ate the r, a, and n in my username. The rest of
the letters in my username were there along with the word Username. Very
strange!
I plan to contact the bank and ask the web page designer change the login
screen to a more normal configuration.
