Chris, In the case of HP, if you know your model number, you can order recovery disks for a while. These disks may not actually be a windows install disk but install disks that include a preconfigured version of Windows as well as any of the demonstration software. In addition, they may contain any utilities that came with your computer. Asus may have a similar option. Some of what is likely on those disks you may be better off without. <smile> Still, now that you know the model, you could check that out.
You can also make a Windows repair/Recovery disk from Control Panel in earlier versions of Windows and their might be something like that available for you as well. This might get you through most problems, but won't replace utilities that may have been specific to your computer.
