Hi Nick,

If you open the Devices node in the WE control panel, expand this, and
navigate to Synthesizers, and then tab repeatedly, you see your currently
active synthesizer, plus there's a check box which is labelled Remember the
speech settings for this synthesizer when switching.
If you check this check box whenever you've chosen a synthesizer and altered
its settings, then, after switching to another, and then back to it, your
previously saved settings for that synthesizer will be restored.

Is there an easy way I can experiment with the various synthesizers 
without losing my settings?

I'm not too familiar with the role these synthesizers play in my 
interaction with WE.  Am I going to notice a difference in the quality 
of the speech?
