Subject: OT turning back the Clock

Hello,

I use my computers for several hours per day. Am on and off the Web doing
research, and I also use MS Word and Excel very often.

I have been using computers since the early 1980's, and old Tandy Radio Shack
Model 3/4 with Trsdos. Those were the days when I final was able to use a Word
Processor and could edit my own writings without having to get the help of a
sighted person. It was great!

A lot of changes from then to now. I started using Vocal-eyes very early on,
and have been a GW Micro customer for years now.

A couple years ago, I bought Office 2010, this after using Office 2001 for a
long time.

I have just never gotten the hang of using the new Ribbon layout Microsoft has
now gone to using.

I have also been rather aggravated about Windows 8 and 7, as I seem to be
able to find stuff, then can't find it when I need it. I have found
Win 7 and 8 to be about twice as clunky and Funky as Win xP.

Call me an Old Dog that has reached his point of not being able to adjust to
the Newest design, but it looks like I have become that old
Dog. And no one is more surprised than me!

I do a lot of research, a lot On Line. I will use my Win 7 or 8 system to do
the On Line work. But I am thinking of building a very quick and solid Win XP
system, running Win Eyes 8.4 and Office 2001.

I won't be going On Line with this system, as XP has limited success doing this
these days.

but since I do a Lot of writing, I figure, I can use the older Office 2001, and
be a Happy Camper.

However, if I install my old Win XP operating System on a system, will I be
able to download the updates , such as service pacts 2 and 3, plus all of the
updates to Office 2001?

if Microsoft has stopped supporting this old software, are there other sources
for these updates, or is Microsoft still providing them. And
what about typing in my Authentication codes for both XP and Office?
Since both of these packages are no longer supported, am I just tuff out of
Luck?
