Hello. I use ninite all of the time and alternative flash player auto
updater for updating flash and I did contact ninite if they could add
that to their software list, they can not do it cause of adobe. I have
used alternative flash player updater before, once in a while when ever
there is an update it does install this toolbar addon called web
companion by lavasoft. I had to get rid of the software several times
quite annoying. What do you use to update to adobe flash player? I also
read in a recent news article that fire fox hasturn off the adobe flash
player plug in for now since it is a security problem, have not noticed
it on my end, cause most of the time in order to listen to radio or you
tube web content I use Google chrome. I am wondering what is yahoo going
to do when the flash player is dead?

The good news is that the article does support using NINITE. I've used it
successfully without having to worry about unwanted toolbars or adware
installed.

Hi,
What Dave says is true.
We have seen some file repository sites wrap Window-eyes for Office in their
junk ware installer.
I always tell people not to google Window-eyes for office but to go directly
to windoweyesforoffice.com to download the product as we have control of
those files.

Sue,
I have not used FileHippo but I believe it's a repository or collection of
various computer programs. If that's what it is I want to warn you about
being cautious when using sites like this. From what I'm reading, many of
these file collections are now bundling extra software in the installers
which, while not technically a virus, is often considered malware as it can
add toolbars and other unwanted items to your browser.
When I want to get an update for a particular program, I try and go to the
Web site of the developer of the software and download directly from that
site. As an example, if I want to download a demo copy of Window-Eyes onto a
computer I'd make sure that I download it from AISquared's official Web
site, even if a site like Download.com or FileHippo.com claims that they
have a demo of the latest version.
Even while doing that, some developers (not AI Squared) can add this sort of
unwanted software in their installers. I'm not saying you shouldn't do this
or that you shouldn't download from file repositories but please be
cautious.
Personally, I'd avoid those sites like the plague.
Here's a link to a HowtoGeek article talking about the top file repositories
and how they try to force malware on you, including FileHippo. Some of the
language contained in this article is a bit crass and it's not how I'd
choose to write this piece but the information is still valuable.
