Why not get a computer with Windows 10 already on it. The learning curve is less for Win 10 than Win 8.1 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Richard Petty via Talk" <[email protected]> To: "'Chris Grabowski'" <[email protected]>; "'Window-Eyes Discussion List'" <[email protected]>; "'Marten Post Uiterweer'" <[email protected]>

After reading the Windows 10 posts, I would like to ask a question about
becoming an early adopter, something I do not usually do. Because of the
premature death of my Dell 14Z notebook computer (a marginal computer for
all of its short life), I'm about to purchase a Zenbook UX305FA. It comes
with Windows 8.1, a new operating system for me; I'm only familiar with
Windows 7. My options are to learn Windows 8.1, get the Classic shell app,
or upgrade to Windows 10 immediately after I purchase the new computer.

Is it likely Windows 10 is stable enough with WE 9.2 to immediately upgrade to it, even for those of us who typically don't have the time or inclination
to become involved in the troubleshooting often required when adopting
early?

Hi Don,

You can look at Xplorer. A file explorer replacement.
I am using it all the time with WE9.2 and I like it more than the standard
explorer.
In win7 or 8 it is more responcive, so in win`0 too, I think.
You have to reclass the explorer window in this program to a listview, but
after this, it is accessible.
On the GWmicro site there must be a podcast. I thought that it was done by
Chris G. from AI squared.

You can download it from: www.zabkat.com
The program is not free, but there is a 14 day version orso.

AQnd there is a lite version that is free.

Regards, Marten

OK so I have been reporting that Win 10 would not read the list of entries
in the file manager. Cris at Aisquared sent me a link for a full copy of
9.2 and the WE removal tool. I used the removal tool to remove WE and
reinstalled a clean copy. Now WE will at least read the items with the
arrow keys in the file manager but still has a lag of several seconds
between pressing a up or down arrow key and voicing what it should. Far
from acceptable but better than no speaking of the list items.
Is there a good alternative to file manager? I think someone mentioned
one in the past.
Thanks
