Hi. Ok, I will try my best to answer the questions as to how you know when your Windows 10 upgrade is ready to install. For further information, please see my earlier posts concerning the difficulties I had upgrading to Windows 10. Like you, Brice, I reserved my upgrades to Windows 10 on two computers. For whatever reason, my Windows update history under Windows 8.1 showed at least a dozen failed upgrades. My laptop running Windows 7 64 bit home edition showed at least two failed upgrades. I called the Microsoft Accessibility Answer Desk on three occasions and the reps remotely accessed the computers and downloaded the upgrades manually. If things will work as they're supposed to work, you should be notified by Window-eyes when you're download is taking place. Once the download is finished, you should hear a notification that it is ready to install. Depending upon the speed of your internet connection and because the download file is about four gigs, it could take several hours to download and install. Each download and installation took about five hours. Remember, once the installation begins, Window-eyes will not talk. During the installation as Doug Geoffray indicated in an e-mail to a list member, you will need to use narrator to finish the installation and setup before Window-eyes 9.2 comes up talking. Your computer will restart several times, and before Window-eyes stops talking, a message will be spoken that says something like this. Your computer will restart several times and this could take a while. Oh, and once you upgrade to Windows 10, the failed updates will of course be removed. As we're all in the habit of saying, hope that helps.
Mike M P.S. During the installation while Window-eyes is not talking, periodically press the Windows key and the enter key to launch Narrator. If Narrator speaks, follow the prompts. At the risk of sounding like I'm bragging, this is my first installation of a Windows upgrade I have done without sighted help thanks to Doug's instructions, Window-eyes 9.2 being able to remain installed, and let us not forget Narrator. . _______________________________________________ Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared.
