Hi,
This sis just a guess.
Probably the messages you can read without browse mode are text messages.
See if there is an option to display all emails as text.

Subject: Browse mode question

Using WE 9.2, Win 7 and a tweaked version of Windows Mail. When editing an 
email, most of the time I must have browse mode on to read the message and 
browse mode off to edit, however occasionally I can read and edit a message 
without turning browse mode on. I wish it would be this way all the time, don't 
know why the difference.
