This is exactly what I do because you can control the rate yourself, and even
go back if you didn't catch something.

You can also use shift and arrow keys to select the file name (go to the start
of the editbox and press shift-end to move to the end and select the entire
name), and then press control-c to copy the contents so that you have the file
name in the clipboard for use else-where.

It's a good tip Scott.

Another way to get this info is
When focused on the file in question, press f2. This will put you in an edit
box where you can edit the file name. You can simply use the left and right
arrow keys to read the current name and then press escape to leave it
unchanged.
If you change anything in this box and then press enter, it WILL! Change the
name of the file. Don't do that unless you mean to.

Don,

When you are focused on the file, press Control-Shift-S twice. That will
cause Window-Eyes to spell it.

Steve

I am writing in the hope that someone on list has sufficient expertise at
scripting to write a script otherwise known as an app which will slowly
spell the current file name. Yes, I know I can get the spelling by doing
such things as copying the file name to the clipboard with an appropriate
program and than opening a text editor to paste in the copied text. What a
pain just to determine the correct spelling including punctuation marks.
I don't know with certainty when this became an issue. I think it was
Windows 8, but it sure was not an issue in XP.
Come on, someone, please step up to the plate and show your stuff.

Don Roberts
