Hi Ray.

I hope the following is helpful.

All the displays with which I am familiar have the Bluetooth and USB
connectivity. Window-Eyes supports a wide range of displays, many of which
are legacy. However: I regard Window-Eyes braille support as no longer at
cutting edge. And one universal fault with Window-eyes braille support is
that braille input is inconsistent. Some displays are very good with input
- such as the Braille Edge, but others are non-existent - such as the Focus
from Freedom Scientific. I go so far as to suggest forgetting Freedom
Scientific displays as part of your Window-Eyes package. Regardless of
display: Window-Eyes input is only in computer braille.

A strength of Window-Eyes braille support is its hotkey system whereby key
combinations can be configured to behave in specific ways. The Braille Hot
key system is powerful, but clunky. Errors exist with respect to specific
displays.
All displays advertise as being Mac, Ios and VoiveOver compatible.

I am not familiar with the Brailliant. I love the Braille Edge. Mine lives
in an Executive Productx case, and I would recommend the EPI case as an
additional purchase above the actual display itself.

The Brailliant has a good reputation.

I also own an Alva 640 Comfort. I like the texture of its braille, and it
is nice to work with in front of a desktop. Its input keys are very noisy
however, and its documentatin could do with some work. A powerful feature
is to be able to split its communication between a usb connected device and
a bluetooth - perhaps 15 cells for the phone and 25 for the computer. It is
vewry configurable via Window-eyes, but Window-Eyes labeling of keys in the
documentation is incorrect.
I am currenhtly wanting to dsee the Baum Ultra, which has a 20 cell model.
Not making progress on that one however.

Good luck. If I can help furhter - please ask.

Vaughan.

Subject: Seeking Information on Braille Displays

Hello All:

I am looking to replace my current Braille display and would like some
information on potential replacements that are available. While I won't be
putting any money down right away, I'm in a position where I'm able to put
funds aside with the idea of purchasing sometime in early Spring, 2016.

The main criteria required in a Braille display for me are:
1. that it have Bluetooth Connectivity along with USB connectivity. That
way, I can connect the display using Bluetooth to work with my MacBook Pro,
iPhone and via USB to my Windows 8.1 machine which I'll be upgrading to
Windows 10 early in 2016.
2. That it work with Window-Eyes. While I have JAWS on my PC and of
course, use VoiceOver on the Mac and the iPhone, Window-Eyes is the primary
screen reader I use on the PC.
3. That the display offer Braille input capability to the computer and the
phone. While it's something I wouldn't use as often as other features,
having the ability to do input using Grade II Braille would be an important
nice to have feature. Also, while I'm not looking for a full-fledged
notetaker, if the display have the capability where I can use it to take
some toes then transfer these to the computer, that would be nice.
4. the display needs to have at least 20 cells. I will be using this unit
for, among other things, reading information during ACB Board meetings and
in other settings. I'd be looking for a unit with at least 20 cells, 32
would be preferred.

Two displays which have been suggested to me are the Brailliant by HumanWare
and the Braille Edge. I'll be prepared to spend up to about $2,500. I'd
like to know if people have other display ideas that you think would meet my
needs. Please try and let me know who makes a given display; I have access
to some distributors nearby so want to be able to see demonstrations of
displays before I put my money down if possible. If you would prefer to
communicate about this via phone, please email me privately with a phone
number and best times to call and I'll reach out to you; I'm in the U.S.
Central time zone. Thanks in advance everyone for any help.
