This has happened to me multiple times and has caused embarrassment, when replying to the wrong message. Now I'm very careful. One thing that helps, is, when opening the inbox, arrow up or down to another message, then go back to the message you want to read or reply to. This problem only happens, when the folder is first opened. After arrowing up or down and back to the message, the problem seems to go away. Hope this helps. Sometimes when replying, i shift tab to the "send to" bos, to make sure it's the right person.
