I'm not too sure just how this would apply to Windows 7 users, but a quick and dirty way I have found to get the job done in Windows 8.1 is to go to the task manager, and end the IE session. This method can be a bit risky since you might end up undoing another task by mistake, but it usually works, and serves to reveal in no uncertain terms that the culprit is either IE, or WE, or maybe a combination of both. Anyway, WE should immediately come back talking, but you will have to start a new session with IE.

I didn't say that this is either a great or preferred solution, but it is the one that most often works for me. Sorry I can't suggest something better.

One more caveat. I haven't yet turned on Narrator to see if this would help me in navigating within the task manager. You might say that I might have just been lucky in not accidentally closing another program when trying to get back speech, but next time this happens, as I'm sure it will, I will try to remember to go for Narrator and see if it wont help in preventing me from making such an error.

HTH,

Larry
