Hi Robin, That is an interesting question. There is no Tile element in the HTML specification. But, I have read of developers using HTML, JavaScript and CSS to create custom interactive widgets that are square in shape and referred to generically as Tiles. So, why is Window-Eyes announcing these interactive elements as Tiles? Your web browser is responsible for calculating a web page elements accessible name and exposing it to Window-Eyes. So, the web developer must have associated the term Tile into the element's name. Maybe they used an ARIA label, maybe they just put the word "Tile" into the text value of the element. I can't say for certain without reviewing the code. If you do hear an element reported as a Tile, you can assume it is square in shape and that is about it. If you hear the Tile is a link or a button, just fall back to the keyboard techniques for working with those types of standard elements. The Start Screen in Windows 8 and the Start menu in Windows 10 is another pla ce where you will find Tiles. This goes to show the trend in creating touch friendly user interfaces with large clickable Tile elements. I suspect the web developers were inspired by what they saw in Windows and wanted to replicate the same type of element on the web. I hope this helps.

My company redesigned it's human resources homepage with tiles and last night I logged into my Bank of America account and think I heard Window Eyes say "tile" a few times as I navigated around. I understand that tiles can present a snapshot of information and also serve as a link - or at least this is what I'm experiencing on our human resources homepage. Just wondering if there is anything else I should know about them as I interact. Seems that tabbing around moves me through them.
