I also wanted to add that one of the most important factors to consider is the software the manufacturer might preload on the computer. Inaccessible bloatware is one of the biggest causes of compatibility and usability issues. The cleaner the install the better. If you have a system custom built, the PC maker can do a clean install of Windows with only the minimum set of drivers and the applications you need to use. If you are thinking about a laptop, the keyboard is a very important consideration as well. Does it have dedicated function keys? Do you want a dedicated number pad?
