I know there's a way to turn it off. But it's been years since I figured it out. So I just ran through the Alt-T Tools, O Options menu real quick. Go to Security and then the Junk tab. Under that tab there's a check box to turn off Adaptive junk filtering or something like that. You might also just try Googling something like "junk filtering in Thunderbird."

going there to begin with. I am using the latest version of Thunderbird.
