Sure. But keep in mind that these issues aren't specific to Windows 10 or
Office 2016. From time to time, when you first open an Office document, there
is a focus issue which prevents Window-Eyes from reading anything. The
workaround is to focus the Desktop (press Windows Key+D) and then move focus
back to the Office application using Alt+Tab. I also find that Window-Eyes does
not always announce the focused item when you open the context menu in Word.
The workaround is to go to the next menu item with Down Arrow and then move
back up with Up Arrow. You could also use the read current line or speak
summary hotkey to announce the first menu item.
Best,
Marc

Hello again

"But, there were a few intermittent issues that had to be worked around."
Can you give us a list of those issues and workarounds so we don't have to
figure out them ourselves?

Pthanks, Peter

Hi Peter,
Since Microsoft Office includes standalone applications that are not part of
the Windows 10 operating system, I don't believe the Windows 10 Anniversary
Update will have a major impact on their current level of accessibility. I just
taught a three day class using Windows 10 and Office 2016. Overall, the
applications played well with the screen reader and provided a similar
experience compared to using older versions of Office and Windows. But, there
were a few intermittent issues that had to be worked around.
Best,
Marc

Hello Mark

Thanks for the link to the Accessibility Blog; MS is indeed committed to
accessible products for all users. I remember when Bill Gates announced the
commitment during a developer's conference at Microsoft many years ago when
Doug and Dan were much younger.

The mentioned improvements to Narrator, Edge, and so on are impressive! But
what is the state of accessibility to Office apps (Word, Excel, etc.) with
Narrator and Window-Eyes in the to-be-released Windows 10 update on August 2,
2016? Afterall, Office accdessibility is a cornerstone to success in college
and business.

Thanks, Peter Duran

Microsoft has extended the free Windows 10 upgrade offer beyond July 29 for
persons with disabilities. They are also planning a big anniversary update on
August 2 that includes numerous accessibility improvements. Edge is getting
closer to becoming compatible with third party screen readers. You can read
